This workshop introduces students to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the emerging field of Spatial Humanities. Designed for participants with little to no prior GIS experience, the workshop provides hands-on experience working with geospatial data and digital mapping tools. Students learn how to geocode a CSV file in ArcGIS Online and create an interactive web map by combining their data with demographic information from the U.S. Census American Community Survey (ACS). Through the process of layering and analyzing multiple GIS datasets, students explore how spatial relationships can reveal patterns, connections, and new insights within historical and contemporary research questions.
